As Vancouver Dance Theatre is a non-profit organization lead by parent and community volunteers, it takes every participating family to bring all of the pieces together to create a beautiful final production. Each dancer’s family is required to volunteer for TWO pre-production jobs during the season and THREE production jobs. Be on the lookout throughout the season for communications from the VDT vice president regarding volunteer sign ups.

Production volunteer opportunities include the following:
Thank you to each and every VDT family, and their volunteer support, in making our Nutcracker production come to life!
Pre-production volunteer opportunities include the following:
- Rehearsal Weekend Attendance Helper: take attendance during weekend rehearsals. May also be asked to record practice if needed. Each family may only select one attendance helper weekend.
- Ornament Prep and Creation: help make ornaments. This is a take home job. This may include preparing supplies to assemble ornaments, painting clothespins, dressing clothespins, gluing on hair or accessories and/or help shop for materials if needed. This job is ongoing throughout the entire rehearsal time period, so please be prepared to offer help weekly.
- Stage and Props Crew: help to design, make or repair needed props (either at home or in the studio). It is preferred that volunteers here would also join the backstage crew as part of their required production jobs for the show in order to have a smooth running backstage/ set up crew.
- Silent Auction basket procurement and assembly: create a complete gift basket for silent auction during the shows (overall cost between $50-75). This can be done by getting donations from local businesses, family members or making something amazing! Completed and assembled baskets will be due in the studio by November 20th.
Production volunteer opportunities include the following:
- Dressing Room Moms/Volunteers: manage dressing room and help dancers into costumes in preparation for going on stage. This is coordinated with the Front Stage Manager. Each room requires several volunteers to ensure all dancers are stage ready and entertained when waiting in the dressing room. May require makeup and hair touch up.
- Costume Steaming and Organization: help steam costumes prior to productions. Help organize costumes by dancer and place in designated dressing rooms.
- Stage and Props Crew: help set up the dance floor, props and backdrops during dress rehearsals. Organize props for use during shows and help with prop changes during the production at the Stage Manager’s direction.
- Ushers: assist audience members in finding seats, locating restrooms, and helping as needed during intermission.
- Ticket support: view/verify online ticket purchases and support at the door sales.
- Flower Sales: take flower purchases, collect name and cast assignments, tie tags onto flower stems and deliver to dressing rooms.
- Front House Table Sales: work with the Front House Manager in collecting sales for ornaments, nutcrackers, tiaras, and snacks.
- Cast Party: set up Cast Party food and utensils during the matinee show in anticipation of the Cast Party between Saturday shows. Assist in clean up after the Cast Party.
Thank you to each and every VDT family, and their volunteer support, in making our Nutcracker production come to life!
